Dr. A J Alexander

Dr. Alexander had been in private practice for more than a decade in Decatur, Alabama.
He graduated from Trivandrum Medical College, Kerala State, India — one of the oldest and most prestigious medical schools in the country. He obtained postgraduate training in General Internal Medicine and awarded the degree of MD in General Medicine. He and his family later spent some time in Saudi Arabia where Dr. Alexander worked as a physician for the ARAMCO Medical Organization.
Dr. Alexander and his family moved to the USA in 1983 where he completed a second residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Louis University. He also joined the Faculty of Deaconess Hospital, affiliated with St. Louis University, as a Clinical Instructor in Medicine. He spent time working as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana while working as a gastroenterologist at the Danville VA Medical Center. There he was awarded Teacher of the Year. He held a private practice in Virginia Beach for 10 years before moving to Northern Alabama.
Dr. Alexander is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology for 25 years. He is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, now for more than 27 years.
Dr. Alexander is extremely knowledgeable in all gastrointestinal tract disorders and is an excellent endoscopist — an essential skill for providing the quickest, most comfortable and successful GI procedures. His special interest is in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and diseases of the liver.
